Language connects us to our past, present, and future. In an effort to preserve and revitalize the Mahican language, a dedicated group of local coaches and community members is weaving it into the Little League baseball program through engaging games and activities. By incorporating Mahican words and phrases during practices, they hope to spark enthusiasm for the language and develop enough fluency to eventually coach entire practices and games in Mahican.
Select a lesson below to discover all the available learning resources. Here, you will find audio and video lessons as well as a handy “Quizlet” tool that coaches and staff are using to strengthen their own knowledge. The Quizlet lessons consist of digital flashcards. To hear the pronunciation of the Mahican words, simply click on the megaphone icon located in the corner of each flashcard.
It is recommended to begin by listening to the audio lesson, next watching any corresponding videos, and then reviewing the lesson through Quizlet. To reinforce learning and build a solid foundation, coaches and Little League staff are instructed to listen to each audio lesson three times a day.
